Each lot of product bearing the BSCG seal is independently tested and certified by The Banned Substance Group (BSCG), offering the broadest protection available against the presence of banned substances in sport, like those on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) prohibited list, as well as other prescription, over-the-counter, and illicit drugs.

Founded by Dr. Don Catlin, long considered the father of drug testing in sports, and the person responsible for developing many of the anti-doping standards in use by the International Olympic Committee today. Dr. Catlin founded the first sports anti-doping lab in the United States, the UCLA Olympic Analytical Laboratory, and served as its director for 25 years, growing it into one of the world’s largest and most respected WADA sports drug-testing laboratories. Dr. Catlin was a longtime member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Medical Commission and proved instrumental in helping to found WADA and the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

BSCG is the gold standard in testing for illicit drugs, adulterants, and other substances prohibited across the spectrum of USADA, NCAA, NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA/WNBA, PGA/LPGA, MLS, ATP/WTA, FIFA, CrossFit, military, law enforcement, first responder, and other drug-testing programs.

BSCG Certification – Details and Process

BSCG Certified Drug Free® certification and testing for banned substances offers the maximum drug-testing and toxicology protection to athletes and other elite professionals like police, fire, military, and others who want to ensure their supplements are free of drugs that are prohibited in sport, and other prescription, OTC or illicit drugs.

Each batch of finished product is tested for a comprehensive list of 496+ drugs, including WADA Prohibited Substances, as well as illicit, over-the-counter, and prescription drugs not banned in sport.

But even before a product can be admitted into the certification program, BSCG officials and scientists must first conduct a compliance assessment of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in accordance with Title 21, Section 111 of the Code of Federal Regulations. In addition, each formulation must undergo an independent toxicology peer review.

 Other key features of the program are as follows:

  • Finished production lots are tested for a full menu of 496+ drugs including WADA Prohibited Substances and illicit, over-the-counter, and prescription drugs not banned in sport.
  • Every finished batch must be certified with randomized blind sampling of participating products.
  • Testing of off-the-shelf finished products is conducted by BSCG at random.
  • Toxicology review and ingredient evaluation.
  • 21 C.F.R. 111 – GMP quality control process review.
  • Verification and cross-reference on the Banned Substances Control Group database.
